The sixteen finalists who will participate in final tournament are :

Croatia (4th appearance) Czech Republic (5th appearance, runner up in 1996) Denmark (8th appearance, champion in 1992) England (8th appearance, 3rd place in 1968) France (8th appearance, 2 champion in 1984 and 2000) Germany (11th appearance, 3 champion in 1972, 1980, and 1996) Greece (4th appearance, champion in 2004) Italy (8th appearance, champion in 1968)

Netherlands (9th appearance, champion in 1988) Poland (2nd appearance) Portugal (7th appearance, runner-up in 2004) Republic of Ireland (2nd appearance) Russia (10th appearance, champion in 1960 as Soviet Union) Spain (9th appearance, 2 champion in 1964 and 2008) Sweden (5th appearance) Ukraine (1st appearance)

The sixteen finalists were divided into four group. These allocation of groups using UEFA's national team coefficient ranking. These is the four group in Euro 2012 :
