Donetsk is a large city in eastern Ukraine who are on the side of the river Kalmius. The city was founded in 1869 by a steel and mining entrepreneurs from Wales John Hughes. The town was thus named Yuzovka in recognition of his role in its founding ("Yuz" being a Russian or Ukrainian approximation of Hughes). The city changed its name in 1921 when the Communist master it and become Stalino, according to the name of the leader of the Soviet Union at that time. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, the town was renamed Donetsk, under Nikita Khrushchev. The name was taken from the river Siverskyi Donetsk.
Donetsk is the centre for Ukraine's coal mining and notable steel industry center. Although many described as a dirty place from industrial combustion, Donets Basin or Donbass called UNESCO recognized as the industry's cleanest city in the world. Besides coal mining, Donetsk began to develop economic activities in the field of engineering and food production.
