Although seeded in Group B qualification for Euro 2012 with weak competitor, Russia almost didn't make it to Euro 2012 final competition. In 10 qualification matches, Russia has lost once and two draws. Russia have to beat Slovenia in last matches to make sure qualified for Euro 2012. After the breakup of the Soviet Union, Russia has never won any international championships. Euro 2012 is their 10th appearances including when they as Soviet Union. They seeded in Group A, were drawn with Poland, Greece and Czech Republic. Russia National Football Team has a nickname "Red Bear" and have home ground at Luzhniki Stadium, Lokomotiv Stadium (both in Moscow), and Petrovsky Stadium in St.Petersburg.

Russia National Football Team manager is Dirk Nicolaas Advocaat who's born in The Hague, Netherlands at September 27, 1947 (age 64). Although success in Zenit St Petersburg, a lot of Russian football lovers doubts about his ability especially Advocaat replaces Guus Hiddink whose lead Russia to the third position in Euro 2008. Started career as team manager in 1981, Advocaat has won a Russian Premier League, a Russian Super Cup, a UEFA Cup, and a UEFA Super Cup with Zenit St Petersburg, two Scottish Premier League, two Scottish Cups, a Scottish League Cup with Glasgow Rangers, a Eredivisie, a KNVB Cup, and two Johan Cruijff-schaal with PSV Eindhoven, and a Eerste Divisie with SVV. In 2008, after UEFA Cup success, Advocaat was given the Honorary Citizen of St Petersburg award and making him the city's first foreign honorary citizen since 1866.

Andrei Sergeyevich Arshavin born in Leningrad, Soviet Union at May 29, 1981 (age 30). Arshavin got his captain's armband on 11 June 2009, when Russia was manage by Guus Hiddink. In club career, Arshavin has won a Russian Premier League, a Russian Premier League Cup, a Russian Super Cup, an UEFA Cup and a UEFA Super Cup with Zenit St Petersburg. In national team, Arshavin has made 67 appearances and 16 goals. Although its performance decreases after 2008, Arshavin still relied upon by Advocaat. Arshavin's performance and attitude must be improved before the tournament was held because he is now playing like no motivation.

Aleksandr Gennadyevich Anyukov born in Kuibyshev, Soviet Union, at September 28, 1982 (age 29). He is Russian's National Football Team star player and Arshavin's team-mate at Zenit St Petersburg as a right defender before Arshavin left to Arsenal in 2006. In club career, Anyukov has won two Russian Premier League, two Russian Premier League Cups, two Russian Super Cups, an UEFA Cup and a UEFA Super Cup with Zenit St Petersburg. Anyukov has made 62 appearances and 1 goal for Russia. He is a experienced player with a number of appearances in the Champions League with Zenit and is Advocaat's favorite player.

Alan Yelizbarovich Dzagoev born in Beslan, Soviet Union, at June 17, 1990 (age 21). With his club CSKA Moscow, Dzagoev has won 3 Russian Cups and a Russian Super Cup. In 2008, he was awarded the Best Young Player in the Russian Premier League. Because of his good performance when play against Slovakia, Andorra, and Ireland in the early phase of their qualifying group, Dzagoev won the trust of Advocaat. Dzagoev has played to senior Russian national football team since 2008 and has made 17 appearances with 4 goals.
